The earth's ecosystem can sustain a certain level of carbon emissions each year - that level, the planet's ‘Carbon Ceiling,' is 14.5 Gigatonnes of CO2. The current level of emissions, however, is around 29 Gigatonnes of CO2 each year - in order to sustain that, we would need 2 whole planets.
